Hope you're having an amazing week! I wanted to write a post about something that's been on my mind lately.
And that is: My dang purpose in life.
Life comes in waves. Sometimes your up, sometimes your down, and sometimes you're just waiting for the tide to come in.
Right now, I'm waiting for the tide. I feel like emotions and hormones definitely take a part in where you are in life. When you're emotional, it can feel like nothing is happening and you're going nowhere. Then suddenly, it can feel like you're shooting across the sky at lightning speed and everything is falling into place.
I'm here to tell you that EVERYONE has an identity crisis at some point or another. It happens multiple times in peoples lives and at any age. For example, my mom is in her 50's getting over a divorce and I'm in my 20's going through a "finding my purpose" crisis. Like I said, any age.
I've changed my mind (about what I want to do with my life) so many times at this point that I swear people think I'm crazy.
I've thought about going back to school to become a behavioral psychologist, I've thought about being a personal trainer, a mentor, an Ariana Grande (that's a job, right?). I've even thought about uprooting my life and moving to Europe (true story).
The pressures of society force us not only to change and grow, but to panic and worry too. We never feel like we're moving at the right speed. When we're working our a*ses off, we're not taking enough time to wind down and enjoy life. When we're leisurely, we're not moving towards our goals fast enough. We can never win.
Move at your own pace. There is no right or wrong way to live life. Only you know what you want in life and what your desires are. Just because you need a break doesn't mean you're giving up on your dreams. Listen to your body, take a break. Sometimes it's good to recharge your batteries.
If you're working non-stop and missing out on fun stuff, that's okay too! Life comes in waves, remember? You'll have your break and you'll wish you were working hard again.
I get it more than anyone because I'm freelance. Sometimes I have a week off, sometimes I have a month off, and sometimes I have no time off at all for like 6 weeks. C'est La Vie!
I just try to move forward and remember that I'm only 23. In the span of life I've already grown so much, and I still have growing to do!
We grow and change every day. Tomorrow I could get a call to do a 3 month job where I'll be working 5 days a week, 8 hours a day and I'll be wishing I had downtime again.
So, if you're reading this and feeling like "What the heck am I doing with my life? I feel so stuck and bored." I'm here to tell you, it's okay. It happens to literally everyone. Even people who do nothing all day and get paid for it probably feel like they could be doing more with their life. It's human nature to want more. Nothing's going to change that.
Here are some ways to feel better about all of this and maybe help shift your mindset!
1. Set some goals for yourself.
It'll help you feel better and give you something to work towards.
2. Stop comparing yourself to others.
Everyone moves at their own pace and finds their own way. (everyone has their own journey)
3. Try new things.
Sometimes you feel stuck because you're doing the same stuff all the time. Change up your routine and do something different. Start going to the gym, leave early and take a new way to work, or eat somewhere new. Literally, these easy small changes can help you get out of a funk.
4. Vocalize your wants.
Lately, I have found that if you vocalize your wants often, you're more likely to put it into practice and make it happen. I have been telling every single person that I can about my goals and it's helped change my mindset so much! I feel more ambitious and eager to make my goals happen. Almost as if that person is going to hold me accountable. Like, "I've said it out loud, now I have to do it."
5. Have some fun.
Sometimes, finding your purpose in life is your purpose. You need to enjoy the ride. It takes time to figure out what you want to do and what you like to do. It takes a lot of doing what you don't want to do to figure out where to go next. All is good. Remember to keep your chin up and have some fun!
I hope this helps you feel better about feeling lost. I know it can feel like you've tried every road and every door. But, maybe the right road just hasn't come along yet. Maybe, the timing wasn't right. You'll find your purpose. Just keep pushing forward!
