How To: Cappuccinos At Home


Anyone else spend wayyyy too much on coffee? And half the time I don't even like it... Well, no more.

Now, instead of being broke and partially caffeinated, prepare to be less broke and overly caffeinated! (haha)

I'm going to show you how to make cappuccino's at home!

This has been a new favorite hobby of mine. Like, to the point where I drink too many in a day and am bouncing off the walls.

But, there's something so relaxing about making a cappuccino. I think I was a barista in Italy in another life.

Why I started doing this was; I was sick of paying so much for coffee and I wanted to be able to just make as many as I wanted without spending so much money all the time. So, I bought the espresso my favorite coffee shop uses, I learned how to use the espresso machine and I bought oat milk at a health store. BOOM. Tasted just like the $6 latte I got at my favorite coffee shop!! AND I could have as many as I wanted.

(warning: you may get addicted and be overly caffeinated and have to....learn self control...*gasp*... I know--the thought!)

Here's what you'll need:

- Good espresso finely ground

- A shot glass

- Vanilla extract (optional)

- Milk of your choice (almond, oat, macadamia, whole, etc) *I love oat for the most froth or creaminess

- A frothing pitcher (you can use a regular pitcher, but I like to feel like a barista w this one and the spout is thinner)

- A pot to heat your milk in

Let's begin!

Step 1: Make The Espresso

Put water up to the line in the bottom chamber. Then put the little basket in there. Fill the basket with espresso and flatten the top. Don't pack it too tight or the water won't be able to get through. Pack it so it's not loose. Then, screw the top on. Put it on medium/hight heat. Enough to boil the water. While you're waiting, warm your milk.

The water will start boiling and push through the espresso chamber and into the top chamber. Once you hear it stop brewing and start gasping for air, it's ready! Turn off the heat.

Step 2: Warm Your Milk

Pick a milk, any milk... I like oat milk or almond. Oat has the best thickness to froth with. I like to measure how much milk I'll need by pouring it into my frothing pitcher before pouring it into the pot. It's about 14oz or a little over 1.5 cups of milk for 2 cappuccinos in the mugs I tagged above.

Turn it on medium/low heat. Don't let it simmer. Just get it hot. This is where you can add vanilla extract if you want a little sweetness. I add a tsp every now and then.

Step 3: Assemble Your Cappuccino

Put 2 shots of espresso into your mug. Then, with your hand frother, froth the milk. Once thick and frothy, pour it into your espresso and voila!

Step 4: Enjoy!

You're done! Easy peasy. Now, sit back, learn some Italian, throw on some jazz music and be transported to Europe ;)

Hope you liked this post! It takes a few tries and some practice to get the hang of it and perfect it. But, it's so fun to try out different flavors, milks, and espressos! I'm working on getting designs down, but it's hard when you don't steam the milk.
